What do roving barbarians, rampant crime, crumbling infrastructure, peasants dependent on ultra-wealthy ruling benefactors, and the plague make you think of? If you said The Middle Ages or once-prosperous Venezuela rapidly devolving into a third world county, you may want to consider closer to home — like California.
In the typical Third-World megalopolis, once eradicated diseases are common, a hodgepodge of gleaming towers and decaying communities stand side by side, and the ruling elite seek to dictate to the rest of the country how best to live their lives.
This could be a no better picture of where a system dominated by socialism always ends up. Stephen Green of PJ Media writes, “Los Angeles is quickly becoming a typical Third-World megalopolis, and the rest of the state isn’t far behind.”
Once a mecca for those looking for sand, surf and Hollywood dreams, has become the epitome of a Middle Ages castle surrounded by misery and poverty. Local columnist Steve Lopez describes his city as having a growing swath of “wasteland with rats scurrying among piles of decaying garbage and squalid tent cities … a giant trash receptacle.”
The Los Angeles Times recently ran a montage of photos along with a column that depicts the “collapse of a city that’s lost control.” Things are so bad that Lopez lamented, “Did someone turn back the calendar a few hundred years?”
Like Venezuela, California’s leftist administration and policies didn’t need a few hundred years to take the state to where it is today. Ronald Reagan’s two terms as governor from 1969 to 75 seem like ancient history and the left who fought him at every turn is determined to never give up its hold on the reins of power again.
Now the city streets of Los Angeles and San Francisco are teeming with the homeless, needles, trash, and human waste. Lopez writes that the city streets of LA are “treated like dumpsters, or even toilets.”
The conditions are so bad that LAPD officers are seeking transfers to avoid the most recent plague created by leftist policies, typhus. The LAPD said in a statement “our police officers often patrol in adverse environments and can be exposed to various dangerous elements.”
Another common problem in third world countries is the lack of reliable power. Rolling blackouts are now common across the state with its government claiming the problem is global warming and the Federal government’s lack of response to that challenge.
While downed power lines can cause wildfires, the problem is not climate change. The state has diverted so many tax dollars to its leftist policies that it has failed to remove flammable brush from beneath and around power lines. The result is some of the state’s poorest residents must suffer under California leaders failed liberal policies.
Rolling blackouts, typhus, the nation’s largest homeless population are symptoms of California’s many plagues – a failed Progressive government is the cause.
